Whither Marcus?

Did you think that the Marcus Vick saga was over when he went undrafted? This was one of The Turkey’s no-brainer draft predictions that actually came to pass. But what of Marcus now? Whither be the former Hokie problem child ex-quarterback and brother of Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick?

It turns out that he’s trying out at wide receiver with the Miami Dolphins, and they say he’s coming along well. I suppose they need someone to provide notariety now that Ricky “Ganja” Williams will be sitting out for a year’s suspension for failing yet another NFL drug test and paying penance playing for the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. Read about Vick’s Dolphin tryout here.

One Response to “Whither Marcus?”

her a a couple of web pages that rather quickly explain why finding availaible primary care doctors is very hard.

    http://www.aafp.org/match/graph05.html

the average number of med students choosing primary care family practice was about 2,500 year pre 1996…now the number is just barely above 1,100

a quick estimate from this data is that cumulatively there are @ 7,000 less doctors practicing family practice over the past 10 years. this amounts to some states experiencing a drop of 300-500 less primary care physicians in 2006 compared to 1996.

The numbers of Internal medicine docotors choosing primary care is only about 200/year.

and to make availabiliy issues worse…. about 50% of physcians since 1996 are women and thus a majority of these young doc’s work part-time for several years while trying to raise families as well.

and since 9/11 the number of froeign doctors coming to the US has dropped significantly.

all this while are population is growing more numerous and getting older.

a recent article highlight the impending collapse of primary care.

Why the drop in primary care? For most docs it boils down to too much work, hassle and stress.
