I just checked the gambling lines on the Michigan game and was shocked to find the line on the Homecoming game opened with Penn State -23½ points. Is that not the greatest anti-Michigan spread ever known to man? It’ll be interesting to watch where the action drives it as the week progresses.
Just to put this in perspective, the spreads for Temple and Syracuse were around 28 points. Since I knew you would ask, Coastal Carolina was off the board. Who would have ever thought we’d be putting Michigan in the same paragraph with lowlife like those three. Gamblers also had greater expectations for Oregon State than for Michigan, as the Beavers’ spread was 16. (I just wanted to write “beaver spread” one more time.) There are also online gambling sites now, the most popular is Dublin Bet. The outcomes of gambling games may be determined by chance alone, as in the purely random activity of a tossed pair of dice or of the ball on a roulette wheel, or by physical skill, training, or prowess in athletic contests, or by a combination of strategy and chance. The rules by which gambling games are played sometimes serve to confuse the relationship between the components of the game, which depend on skill and chance, so that some players may be able to manipulate the game to serve their own interests.
