The Nittany Turkey

Primarily about Penn State football, this is a tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Arrington Hurt in Cycle Crash

Posted on June 18, 2007 Written by The Nittany Turkey

Ex-Nittany Lion linebacker LaVar Arrington, formerly of the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants, was hurt in a motorcycle crash in Maryland today. His injuries were described as serious, but not life threatening in this ESPN report.

This does not exactly portend well for Arrington’s free agency job hunt. Between his blown-out achilles tendon and the broken bones suffered in this accident, exactly which NFL team will be willing to take a chance on him?

Young Entrepreneurs

Posted on June 11, 2007 Written by The Nittany Turkey

PSU $

PSU $You all know that Penn State football student tickets sold out in barely an hour last week. Everyone thought it was great at the time, that it meant that the popularity of the Nittany Lions was at an all-time high, or at least close to it.

Yeah, well now we know the real reason for the sellout. A quick glance at eBay will show you what our young entrepreneurs have learned about the lucrative ticket scalping industry. While eBay has some strict rules about scalping, you can bet that the sales on other, less restrictive sites involve considerable premiums.

I’m conflicted over whether I should be proud of the little tykes for their entrepreneurial spirit, or pissed off at them for viewing PSU tickets as a shady money-grubbing venture.

Bada Blah

Posted on June 11, 2007 Written by The Nittany Turkey

For those of you who, like this Turkey, anticipated a smashing finale to one of the great series ever created for television, The Sopranos, Sunday night’s final episode was a limp disappointment.

All the speculation, including my wacked out scenario, about whether Tony would live or die, go to prison or remain a free man, or whether his psychiatrist would turn state’s evidence, went for naught. Few issues were resolved by this episode; everything was left hanging.

Well, except for old Phil Leotardo. Thanks to a tip from dat friendly FBI agent, who was mysteriously portrayed having problems with his gun-packing, law enforcement wife, Tony’s boys got to Phil. ??? ????? Just to give us one final, unforgettable whacking, Phil had his brains blown out at point blank range in a Long Island gas station, after which his SUV containing his two bawling infant grandchildren rolled over his head—a great, big, freakin’, graphical, metaphorical bada bing! for all that creator David Chase has tried to portray about da mob: cold hearted violence, cruelty, and distorted familial relationships.

Whodat Turkey?

The Nittany Turkey is a retired techno-geek who thinks he knows something about Penn State football and everything else in the world. If there's a topic, we have an opinion on it, and you know what "they" say about opinions! Most of what is posted here involves a heavy dose of hip-shooting conjecture, but unlike some other blogs, we don't represent it as fact. Read More…
