The Nittany Turkey

Primarily about Penn State football, this is a tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Tweedle Dum, Tweedle Dee

Posted on October 11, 2010 Written by The Nittany Turkey

A few Sunday morning tweets from two PSU running backs tell a story about mindsets the morning after a big loss.

eroyster22 going to play a relaxing round of golf now…

Then, about an hour later:

eroyster22 fallin asleep in the golf cart…

That was from Evan Royster, who underachieved yet again on Saturday. Contrast his tweets with this, from one of his heirs apparent, Silas Redd:

Si_REDDzone25 #RISEandGRIND y’all ! didn’t wanna lift this morning but theres a price to pay for success and it’s call hardwork!

Royster needed a relaxing round of golf on Sunday, whereas Redd knew that the only way to improve himself is to keep on working on getting stronger and faster. Sounds like an entitled senior versus a driven freshman. No wonder Redd is getting so much playing time. This is one of the few things the coaches are doing right.

However, the natives are restless, and Cory Giger of the Altoona Mirror has a lot to say about it. Warning: he tells it as he sees it; there is no walking on eggs or sacred cow treatment here.

Thank God for Gophers

Posted on October 11, 2010 Written by The Nittany Turkey

Adam Rittenburg’s Big Ten Power Rankings came out in ESPN.com this morning. I cringed as I scrolled down to find the Nittany Lions had free-fallen to Number 10, with only the Golden Gophers beneath:

10. Penn State (3-3, 0-2): The defense is depleted by injuries, the offense has no identity and a bowl appearance is no longer guaranteed for Joe Paterno’s squad. Penn State finished the first half with a thud, suffering its worst Homecoming loss in Paterno’s lengthy tenure. At least the bye week comes at the perfect time, as Penn State needs to regroup on both sides of the ball. The Lions always could rely on their stout defense, but the injury situation really changes things going forward.

An Indiana-Minnesota sandwich? Lion meat in the middle? Someone wake me from this nightmare!

Last week, I declared Penn State as solidly in the middle of the Big Ten pack. This week they’re at the bottom.

Meh!

Whodat Turkey?

The Nittany Turkey is a retired techno-geek who thinks he knows something about Penn State football and everything else in the world. If there's a topic, we have an opinion on it, and you know what "they" say about opinions! Most of what is posted here involves a heavy dose of hip-shooting conjecture, but unlike some other blogs, we don't represent it as fact. Read More…
