The Nittany Turkey

Primarily about Penn State football, this is a tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

The $10,000 Challenge

Posted on August 29, 2012 Written by The Nittany Turkey

Marc Emmert tells Curley, Schultz, and Spanier a thing or two.
Marc Emmert imposing sanctions on Curley, Schultz, and Spanier.

Our friend John Ziegler, great digger for the truth and doubter of the Freeh findings has decided to put his money where his mouth is. He is betting media members $10,000 of his own money that Shemp and Larry (also known as Tim Curley and Gary Schultz) will not be convicted on charges of perjury or failing to report child abuse in their trial scheduled for January. If he is wrong, he’ll pay $10K to a child protection charity selected by the first media member to take him up on the deal. Otherwise, the ballsy media guy or babe will have to pay $10K to the framingpaterno.com website in support of its next project.

You can find more information here and here.

Thanks once again to Joe, for the pointer.

Meanwhile, a well written article by Cathy Sheffler addresses the rush to judgment and abandonment of due process in her essay “Death to Truth“.

Thanks to RD for that one.

Oops: Trophy Giveback Update

Posted on August 29, 2012 Written by The Nittany Turkey

Earlier, I had posted a media report that was erroneous. Big surprise. Penn State won’t necessarily have to give back all its 1989-2011 bowl trophies.

This just in, courtesy of reader Joe:

UPDATE: 5:15 p.m. – WHPTV’s Jason Bristol is now reporting that the NCAA did not direct Penn State to return the trophies, but that each bowl operator and PS must decide what is appropriate.

So another case of our journalist friends not doing any fact checking before publishing the story-why am I not surprised at this.

I would think that the bowl committees could care less about PS packing this stuff up and sending it back.

It would be nice if someone could confirm whether they are still on display or off to some secret spot to be buried with the Paterno statue.

I would not be surprised if in the context of moving forward with laser focus, they have already been picked up by FedEx and they are on their way to the land of garish sport coats.

We sincerely regret any inconvenience of anger resulting in thrown computers relating to our … ah, never mind!

PSU Wins $10K in ESPN College Colors Competition

Posted on August 29, 2012 Written by The Nittany Turkey

College Colors DayWe’ve got spirit, and we know how to show it! We are Penn State!

And now, Mr Cynicism rears his ugly head. As I wrote this, I could find no mention of Penn State winning the Spirit Cup anywhere on ESPN.com. They’re the promoters of the competition. Don’t you think it would be there first? Apparently, ESPN was the entity that notified the PSU athletic department.

The athletic department announcement is available on the Penn State Athletics website.

So, thank you (I think), ESPN!

What’s the deal?

Whodat Turkey?

The Nittany Turkey is a retired techno-geek who thinks he knows something about Penn State football and everything else in the world. If there's a topic, we have an opinion on it, and you know what "they" say about opinions! Most of what is posted here involves a heavy dose of hip-shooting conjecture, but unlike some other blogs, we don't represent it as fact. Read More…
