The Nittany Turkey

Primarily about Penn State football, this is a tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Spanier’s $3.3 mil severance

Posted on November 28, 2012 Written by The Nittany Turkey

Oh, yeah. Here we go. Lotta bitching about this one!

PSU $Although former Penn State President Graham Spanier hasn’t yet been convicted of obstruction, perjury, and failure to report a crime, he sure will incur a lot of wealth envy wrath from the hoi polloi over his $3.3 million severance package. Now that we have a president who promotes wealth envy, I’m sure it will make Spanier’s detractors even more vocal.

Ain’t right!

See the story in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

O’Brien Named Big Ten Coach of the Year

Posted on November 28, 2012 Written by The Nittany Turkey

Bill O'BrienMuch to the chagrin of the Emmert/Triponey Axis I’m sure, Penn State head football coach Bill O’Brien has been voted by the B1G coaches and their friends in the media as its 2012 Coach of the Year. Says the press release:

O’Brien is the second Penn State head coach to [win] the Big Ten’s Coach of the Year. In his first year with Penn State, O’Brien led the Nittany Lions to an 8-4 overall mark, including a 6-2 record in conference play. O’Brien coached six players to first-team All-Big Ten status, including Allen Robinson, the Richter-Howard Receiver of the Year, and Michael Mauti, the Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year.

That first sentence didn’t make much sense without an infinitive, so I added one; I believe the gist of it is that Paterno won Coach of the Year previously.

I don’t think there’s anyone out there who believes anyone else (including St. Joe) could have done any better than O’Brien in the phoenixlike resurrection of the Nittany Lions, inspiring his brave  bunch of fuckers to exceed all expectations.

It would be great if the honors could be at the FBS level, but not being able to go undefeated or go to a bowl would render O’Brien’s chances very slim. Brian Kelly of Notre Dame already seems to be wired into that slot.

Bleacher Report has the story. Remember them as the target of my prior excoriation about finding replacements from O’Brien before he even has a foot out the door, like David Jones of the Patriot-News wants to do. Well, today, they’re singing a different tune, saying that O’Brien will stay — probably because ESPN reported it. I won’t let them get away with that.

Whodat Turkey?

The Nittany Turkey is a retired techno-geek who thinks he knows something about Penn State football and everything else in the world. If there's a topic, we have an opinion on it, and you know what "they" say about opinions! Most of what is posted here involves a heavy dose of hip-shooting conjecture, but unlike some other blogs, we don't represent it as fact. Read More…
