The Nittany Turkey

Primarily about Penn State football, this is a tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

What, You Mean ESPN Agrees?

Posted on September 10, 2014 Written by The Nittany Turkey

ESPN has been one of Penn State’s biggest detractors since the Sandusky scandal, which has a multiplicative effect among their viewership. Now, all of a sudden, they’re changing their tune.

Brian Bennett writes:

Forget for a moment the unprecedented lengths NCAA president Mark Emmert traveled in order to punish Penn State for what was a criminal matter, not an NCAA rules violation. Discard the notion that those penalties and the ongoing oversight reports by former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell were mostly a public relations show. It simply never made sense to hold accountable current players and coaches who had no association whatsoever to Sandusky.

Read the rest of Bennett’s piece here.

Meanwhile, Ivan Maisel opines:

Not until Rece Davis asked me on the Championship Drive podcast Tuesday did I realize just how big immediate bowl eligibility is for Penn State. If you look at the schedule, which is missing No. 18 Wisconsin, Nebraska and Iowa, and provides off weeks before games at Michigan and against Ohio State, the Nittany Lions easily could reach an Outback or Capital One Bowl. Penn State doesn’t have the experience or the depth to get to its Thanksgiving Saturday game against Michigan State with an 11-0 record. But the new possibilities are exciting to consider in a Big Ten that could use some optimism.

LOL. I think Ivan’s been drinking from K. John’s fountain.

Postseason Bowl Ban Lifted

Posted on September 8, 2014 Written by The Nittany Turkey

Well, the NCAA did what lots of pseudo-pundits thought they would — lifted the bowl ban on Penn State this year. Also, full scholarship numbers will be restored for 2015-2016 and the $60 million dollar fine can remain in the Commonwealth.

Meanwhile, Scott Paterno said that the Paterno family lawsuit brought against the NCAA and Penn State will continue, and Jay Paterno says that relief of the sanctions because of the Mitchell Report is a cover for a faulty Freeh Report. We’ll let them continue to grouse about it.

Meanwhile, we’ll get back to football. The sky’s the limit. Or at least the mythical Toilet Bowl in Kohler, Wisconsin is.

Details as they surface. Back to your local programming.

Whodat Turkey?

The Nittany Turkey is a retired techno-geek who thinks he knows something about Penn State football and everything else in the world. If there's a topic, we have an opinion on it, and you know what "they" say about opinions! Most of what is posted here involves a heavy dose of hip-shooting conjecture, but unlike some other blogs, we don't represent it as fact. Read More…
