Scam Alert from da Turkey!

Posted on August 31, 2010 Written by The Nittany Turkey

There’s an insidious scam out there involving a package notification, in which you receive a postcard telling you to call to arrange for a package pickup. ????? ????? ??????? When you do, the scammers ask you for the tracking number from the postcard, then tell you that they need your credit card number for a small pickup fee. Obviously, you don’t want to do that.

I’ve scanned the card I got just to trigger an alert in your busy brains if such a thing ever shows up in your mailbox. ???? ????? It has apparently been mailed to many thousands of people nationwide. ????? ?????? ?????????

Thanks for the info. It’s the first time I’ve heard about this one. There are so many of them these days that it’s hard to keep up!

It’s a pretty pervasive one, based on the results of my Google search. It apparently hit hard around last Christmas, when people were ripe for being scammed under the premise of a package from an indeterminate source.

The big scam I get at least once a week is the fact that some dude has died in Europe, Dubai or the UK and I am named in the will and just contact this email address and the money will be released to me.
Another one here on line is a very official looking email from your bank with appropriate logo etc. saying to verify your PIN number and other info. My daughter got caught on that one but the bank refunded stuff. Her bank account was scammed for $ 3 G’s plus info used at some business in Toronto that sells coffee machines and then also used in a Espresso Bar somewhere in TO as well. Young people learn best the hard way as they do not listen to those of us who might know a tad more than they do.

Yeah, those stupid scams you described are prolific and ridiculous. I’m sick and tired of traveling to Nigeria, only to be robbed, beaten, left in a gutter full of hungry Anopheles gambiensis, and inoculated with Plasmodium falciparum.

Excuse me now. I’ve got the shakes.

Whodat Turkey?

The Nittany Turkey is a retired techno-geek who thinks he knows something about Penn State football and everything else in the world. If there's a topic, we have an opinion on it, and you know what "they" say about opinions! Most of what is posted here involves a heavy dose of hip-shooting conjecture, but unlike some other blogs, we don't represent it as fact. Read More…
