The Nittany Turkey

Primarily about Penn State football, this is a tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

LJ Released by ‘Skins

Posted on September 22, 2010 Written by The Nittany Turkey

The career path of former Nittany Lion pain in the ass Larry Johnson hit one more pothole on Tuesday, as he was released by the Washington Redskins. This leaves Clinton Portis as the Redskins’ only remaining pain in the ass running back.

Previously cast into the Shanahan rubbish pile was former Steelers feature back Willie Parker. One had to wonder what the Redskins’ front office was thinking when they picked up two runners in the twilight of their careers.

Johnson had just five carries in two games this season.

“We were caught completely off guard by it,” said Johnson’s agent, Peter Schaffer. ??? ???? ?? ??????? “It was not something that we were expecting. ???? ????? I was told by the Redskins that this was a short-term situation brought on by the need to have a special-teams running back, that they cannot afford the luxury of two starting running backs for this week.”

The Redskins can bring Larry back if no other team claims him. My bet is that no one will, including the Redskins. ????? ????? ??? ????

Lessons from the Kremlin

Posted on September 20, 2010 Written by The Nittany Turkey

On Twitter, I follow the official Twitter channel of the President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev (KremlinRussia_E). This morning I received the following series of tweets about forthcoming administrative staff reductions in Russian government:

  • Ordered the administration and government to prepare a forecast of civil service reductions in the next few years http://krln.ru/f9n4
  • First of all we must determine how many civil servants are needed to carry out their tasks effectively.
  • Preliminary plans call for a 20% reduction in the state administrative staff. These cuts are necessary, but they must be well thought-out.

This inspires me to ask why the hell must the United States continue the unabated expansion of government and its associated drag on the economy when other countries are embarking on austerity programs in the face of what is perceived to be a lasting worldwide economic lean period?

Come on, people! If even the great bureaucracy of Russia is going to shrink, what are we waiting for?

Elsewhere, they’re seeing the light. Here, we’ve either forgotten or chosen to ignore some very fundamental macroeconomic principles. If it weren’t so scary and economically consequential to the rest of the world, our governmental profligacy would be the laughingstock of the planet.

Polamalu’s Rocket Sack

Posted on September 20, 2010 Written by The Nittany Turkey

Amazing! Whether you’re a Steelers fan or not, you’ve got to appreciate the defensive work of Troy Polamalu. In this clip taken from late in today’s game with the Titans, Polamalu launches himself over the line to make a flying sack of former Nittany Lion Kerry Collins just as he gets the ball from his center. Again, this was late in the game on a hot as hell day in Nashville, when everyone else on the field was gassed.

Mrs. Polamalu blessed her husband with a new son this past week. You can see that the blessed event has put quite a spring in Troy’s step!

Whodat Turkey?

The Nittany Turkey is a retired techno-geek who thinks he knows something about Penn State football and everything else in the world. If there's a topic, we have an opinion on it, and you know what "they" say about opinions! Most of what is posted here involves a heavy dose of hip-shooting conjecture, but unlike some other blogs, we don't represent it as fact. Read More…
