The Nittany Turkey

Primarily about Penn State football, this is a tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Can’t Keep One Roof Over His Head

Posted on January 9, 2013 Written by The Nittany Turkey

Ted Roof is bolting for Georgia Tech after a successful season as defensive coordinator for Penn State, pending a successful background check. John Butler, who served as defensive secondary coach this past season will succeed Roof as defensive coordinator at Penn State.

As you might recall, Roof was defensive coordinator for one month at UCF before accepting the position under Bill O’Brien at Penn State.

Georgia Tech’s vacancy at defensive coordinator has existed since Al Groh was fired in the middle of last season.

O’Brien and Roof had previously worked together at Duke, where Roof was head coach and O’Brien was offensive coordinator. In addition to Duke, UCF, and Penn State, Roof also coached at Minnesota and Auburn. Such a well-traveled guy, already!

“I am very appreciative of Ted’s contributions to Penn State,” O’Brien said. “Ted is a great coach and person. He earned the respect of our players and they enjoyed playing for him. We wish Ted and his family well.”

Entrenchment

Posted on January 9, 2013 Written by The Nittany Turkey

Mike Poorman, who has covered Penn State football since 1979, wrote a somewhat historical, somewhat watered-down opinion piece for StateCollege.com that compares Bill O’Brien in his second year to the career of Joe Paterno. Given this odd premise, he does a good job of chronicling Paterno’s flirtation with NFL coaching jobs through the years, and moves he made to entrench his power at Penn State. I suppose Poorman’s implication is that O’Brien is headed down the same road, and that O’Brien’s denial of pecuniary motive was a smokescreen — a bunch of malarkey. ???????

The allegations that O’Brien is a master manipulator who will leverage his premier season’s success proceed apace, unabated by BoB’s denials at the Monday press conference. Obviously, there is at least a shred of truth in these machinations, but unless O’Brien holds a gun to Erickson’s head, takes a few hostages, and holes up in Old Main there’s no real news here. ????????? Penn State beat writers just need some fruit to pick in the off-season. bet365 arab

Read “O’Brien and Paterno: The NFL, Power and the Face of Penn State” and discuss, already!

Whodat Turkey?

The Nittany Turkey is a retired techno-geek who thinks he knows something about Penn State football and everything else in the world. If there's a topic, we have an opinion on it, and you know what "they" say about opinions! Most of what is posted here involves a heavy dose of hip-shooting conjecture, but unlike some other blogs, we don't represent it as fact. Read More…
