Saturday Excitement or Anticlimax — Take Your Pick

Oy, vey! The abominable Land Grant Trophy, which is awarded to the winner of the formerly annual Michigan State vs. Penn State football game.

By kickoff time of Saturday’s game pitting the #8 Penn State Nittany Lions (9-2, 7-1 Big Ten) against the abysmally performing Michigan State Spartans (3-8, 1-7 Big Ten), we’ll know whether it is to be just another game or the last hurdle in the path of Penn State’s surprising drive toward the Big Ten Championship game.

Unless you’ve been sleeping through the past few weeks, you know that two things stand in the way of a berth in the bigass game in Indianapolis. The first is the Michigan vs. Ohio State game; the second is the Michigan State vs. Penn State game. Should Ohio State win its game at 12:00 noon, the stage is set for the biggest game for the Nittany Lions in I don’t know how long, already. If not, then Penn State and Moo U. play for the Land Grant Trophy, which no one wants.

Kickoff time in St Joe Memorial Stadium at Beaver is 3:30 PM. Unless UM vs. tOSU goes into overtime at the Horseshoe, we’ll know what Moo U. represents. I’m writing a abbreviated version of the usual pre-game preview and predictions because time is running out in the pre-Thanksgiving hours for this pre-eminent turkey. This is a dangerous time of year for turkeys, so I’m laying low.

This is the season finale for Penn State, the battle for the ugly and unwanted Land Grant Trophy. Our mighty Penn State Nittany Lions (7-4, 4-3 Big Ten) travel to East Lansing to take on the #5 Michigan State Spartans (10-1, 6-1 Big Ten). Last weekend, Michigan State dominated #3 Ohio State, who could muster no offense in the 17-14 Spartan victory. The Buckeyes generated only 132 yards total offense and five first downs against the MSU defense, leaving tOSU in such disarray that Zeke Elliott dissed Urban Meyer in public and Meyer pretty much agreed with his diss-course. The Coaching Merry Go Round Proceeds Apace

Citing unnamed sources, Joe Schad of ESPN.com writes that Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi will become the head coach at the University of Pittsburgh by the end of this week.

Wonder how long he’ll last at Pitt? They haven’t had much luck keeping head coaches there of late. They long for the stability of the Foge Fazio Years.

The deal at second-tier Pitt must be a good one, because Narduzzi claims that it’s a “destination position,” not a stepping-stone he’ll tread upon until something opens up in the mythical first tier.
