The Nittany Turkey

Primarily about Penn State football, this is a tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

PS4RS Freeh Report Critique

Posted on September 13, 2012 Written by The Nittany Turkey

The folks over at PS4RS (Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship) have completed their review of the Freeh report and have presented their conclusions, just in time for the 30 minutes of open mike time at the Penn State Board of Trustees meeting.

Here’s an excerpt from the foreword:

The University has cast blame upon four individuals (Tim Curley, Joe Paterno, Gary Schultz, and Dr. Graham Spanier), three of whom were unable to defend themselves. However, rather than pointing the proverbial finger at individuals with limited or no training in the recognition and prevention of child abuse, the University’s investigation should have focused on why and how trained professionals at the following entities failed to stop Sandusky, despite being placed on notice of his alleged actions in 1998 and/or 2001:

  1. Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare;
  2. Centre County Children and Youth Services;
  3. State College Borough Police Department
  4. Centre County District Attorney’s Office; and
  5. The Second Mile.
Each of these law enforcement or child welfare agencies were placed on official notice, along with the University Police Department, of the events of 1998 and/or 2001. It is beyond comprehension how the public has been led to believe that there was a “cover-up” or “concealment” by representatives of the University. That assertion is wholly unsupported by evidence and, in fact, the evidence is completely to the contrary.

I’ll post a copy here for your review while I read the 57 page document myself.

Thanks to Joe for the heads-up.

Inscrutable!

Posted on September 13, 2012 Written by The Nittany Turkey

I think I have it figured out now. I’ll use “Laser Focus” to deal with “moving forward”. Yeah, dat’s it!

“She a go getta flow spitter dream on..she ah gold digger she’ll do ya till cream gone!!” —Gerald Hodges, via Twitter

I got the letter below from a local Nittany Lions alumnus who happened to co-reside on my sophomore year dorm floor way the hell back when McKean Hall was East Hall E. This guy, whom I’ll call NITTANY1, is an intense character, one who had no use for Joe Paterno, and who spent far too much time in the Army not to have come out unscathed mentally. And thus, with that in mind, please understand that I found this letter just as inscrutable as Gerald Hodges’ Tweeted rap lyric [pull quote], and as much of a head-scratcher as you will, save for its general theme that perhaps suggests that Penn State should ditch the Big Ten and join the ACC.

PENN STATE RESIGNS BIG TEN

No vision. Why couldn’t Penn State have done last spring what Notre Dame just did? We have NO future in the Big Ten and have NEVER been welcome. Now we’re hated by them worse than, well, Notre Dame. Why are we granting them our essence? You’re dropping trou in front of a Nebraskan. Do you know how D E A D the Big Ten schools are?

Karin and BSCGator are going to Kentucky – Florida Saturday. Two have-nots, but very different, vibrant venues.

“Just as an urn made of clay lowered into a well eventually breaks, so too must all generals die in battle.” —NITTANY1

Vacate the Big Ten “because it’s the just and righteous thing to do for us at this difficult time. Let us take this respite to find our way. Thank you.” use tissue. Now then, you take it in the ass the next 5-10 years the whole time re-building yourself and eliciting this GROUNDSWELL of sympathy that has conferences begging for you to join. And you know who’ll be first in line. To quote the esteemed Beano Cook ten years ago: “What do the Big Ten and Spain have in common? They have both seen better days.”

The next 5-10 you’re playing a schedule like Charleston Southern while our corps of blonde virgin fans and alums is preaching sportsmanship, rebuilding, and NMF child-molesting. That shouldn’t be hard; it’s the same line of bullshit nurtured while Joe was there.

You get Notre Dame home-and-home, Pitt home-and-home. Three Big Ten’s, couple ACCs, say, an SEC home-and-home. WTF else do you need? You’re getting laid in purgatory FFS!

Then in 2020,21,or 22, Viola! You’re the ACC, or SEC, or Big 12, or Mrs. Notre Dame.

__________

Viola, indeed! Any comments? [suppressing a belly laugh]

I do want to know about the blonde virgin fans, though.

More on the UNC fiasco

Posted on September 12, 2012 Written by The Nittany Turkey

I missed this SI story by Michael Rosenberg, originally published on August 31, about the NCAA exonerating UNC because there was nothing wrong with giving phony grades to athletes pretending to be students. I’m kind of glad I just read it, because the readers’ comments add some insight, some spice and, of course, some Penn State hatred.

The story highlights:

  • How can NCAA justify its lack of action with UNC, but its punishment of others?
  • UConn admitted its academic failures, paid the price; UNC gets away scot-free
  • The NCAA has shown that it only cares about money and competition, in that order

The fact that UConn paid the price kind of shoots a hole in my theory that UNC got away scot-free because of the money they pull in for the NCAA basketball tournament, inasmuch as the UConn basketball program was also involved, and the punishment precludes the Huskies from participating in the 2013 tournament. On the other hand, one of the commenters stated that one of those making the decision not to do anything about UNC happened to be a UNC alum.

So, there’s a little more fuel added to the flaming NCAA saga.

Whodat Turkey?

The Nittany Turkey is a retired techno-geek who thinks he knows something about Penn State football and everything else in the world. If there's a topic, we have an opinion on it, and you know what "they" say about opinions! Most of what is posted here involves a heavy dose of hip-shooting conjecture, but unlike some other blogs, we don't represent it as fact. Read More…
