The Nittany Turkey

Primarily about Penn State football, this is a tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Yes, you can!

A faithful reader and part-time antagonist, Walter K., wrote:

I wish there were some way of navigating your stupid Nittany Turkey website. I can never enter anything in it. Can’t you let me in now that ‘Dusker can’t subscribe?  What Beano Cook was to Kiski Prep, you are to Altoona and journalism. A near curmudgeon, you.

I shall respond.

As to the issue of not being able to register, I’ve fixed that. I didn’t know that I had turned off the registration link, but that is indeed what happened. It can be found under the header “META” at the bottom of the column on the far right (not politically). If you want to avoid having to enter the same, damn, redundant information each time you want to leave a comment, register and save yourself some time.

Regarding the characterization as a “near curmudgeon”, hell, I’ve been way over the line into full curmudgeonhood for at least the past 20 years!

P.S. to BigAl:

I put a “captcha” thing on the registration form because I was getting some spam registrations. I want to give you a heads-up just in case you go there, because you’ve told me those things piss you off. I have no plans of requiring that crap for comments.

Any comments?

Posted on September 28, 2013 Written by The Nittany Turkey

So, what did you all think of UCF’s performance against Steve Superior’s boys today? They lost 28-25, but they demolished the spread while turning a few heads. Any comments?

Bortles looked pretty good, albeit against a purportedly weak secondary. His line was 25-36 for 358 yards, 2 INTs and 2 TDs. His receivers were outstanding, and this here turkey’s opinion is that Bortles looks even more like a pro prospect. He is a natural in the pocket.

On the rushing side, the Stormster was effectively corralled, able to generate only 68 yards.

UCF got off to a quick start, as they did in our game, discombobulating the Gamecock defense. Spurrier’s halftime adjustments, probably in the form of a large foot up a bunch of asses, worked to prove that there was life in the defense after all, and even missing its star QB, was able to effectively move the ball on offense, winding up with 490 total yards. Once the Cocks got rolling, they were able to put 28 unanswered points on the board, but they got sloppy in the fourth quarter, allowing UCF to get back into the game. An interception of a rushed throw by Bortles ended UCF’s big chance, and the ensuing onside kick failed.

So, whattya think?

NCAA Softens on PSU Scholarship Constraints

Posted on September 24, 2013 Written by The Nittany Turkey

Mark Emmert agrees that Penn State has been a good boy and will reduce the NCAA punishment for events beyond the control of the football program. There is even some hope for abatement of the post-season ban, but not this year.

Yeah, you read that right. Some of you even correctly predicted it. Whoda thought?

Follow the money.

Read about it here and here.

Whodat Turkey?

The Nittany Turkey is a retired techno-geek who thinks he knows something about Penn State football and everything else in the world. If there's a topic, we have an opinion on it, and you know what "they" say about opinions! Most of what is posted here involves a heavy dose of hip-shooting conjecture, but unlike some other blogs, we don't represent it as fact. Read More…
