This weekend typically sets up next weekend, the real rivalry weekend, with so-called border wars and such. I find this year’s scheduling particularly interesting. The next two weekends should provide endless hours of entertainment, and piss off a few football widows as well. [Read more…]

What Might Have Been

Posted on November 13, 2015 Written by The Nittany Turkey

John Greenleaf Whittier
John Greenleaf Whittier
John Greenleaf Whittier

Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these, “It might have been.”
—John Greenleaf Whittier

One of those bearded guys in the book of the 100 best poems we all had as a kid, John Greenleaf Whittier, wrote that. As it turned out, John was a negativist. So is this turkey. But hark! Read on!

Fortunately for you readers, I am here not to assail you as per usual with my negativistic drivel. Quite the contrary. An article I read this morning inspired me to think about “what might have been” if Penn State Football had not possessed the strength and determination to persevere through the past four years.  Now, having done so, I’m less jaded and more optimistic. My glass is now half full. Perhaps, if Whittier had been around to witness the epic, stalwart determination of the men of Penn State football and the women who loved them over the past four years, his poetry would have exhibited a less melancholy tone. Penn State: Winding it Up in 2015

Posted on November 11, 2015 Written by The Nittany Turkey

How will Penn State finish?

Carnac the MagnificentWe all sort of waffled at the season’s outset when I called for our annual predictions. Yes, it was too early, with a veritable plethora of unknowns to cloud the crystal ball at that point. However, now we’ve seen ten games, so we know a lot more. I’m asking you to tell me what you think will happen with Penn State’s remaining two games, plus your bowl prediction: site, opponent, and outcome. I’ll do the same.

I won’t be insulted if you choose not to play. The roller coaster has worn all our asses down, and indeed, some have given up on the Nittany Lions for the year. Moreover, the season-ending injury to Jordan Lucas will daunt some of those who were already discouraged by the team’s inconsistency. Some of you won’t have the time or patience to play my game with me. That’s cool, too. In any case, I’m really interested in your thoughts. [Read more…]

Whodat Turkey?

The Nittany Turkey is a retired techno-geek who thinks he knows something about Penn State football and everything else in the world. If there's a topic, we have an opinion on it, and you know what "they" say about opinions! Most of what is posted here involves a heavy dose of hip-shooting conjecture, but unlike some other blogs, we don't represent it as fact. Read More…
