Today is the deadline for NFL teams to pare their rosters to 53 men, and today is the day on which former Nittany Lion Heisman Trophy runner-up RB Larry Johnson, Jr. lost his latest chance to play again. Who knows if this is his last chance. The Dolphins also cut TE Brett Brackett and TE Mickey Shuler, as well as former Penn State and Delaware QB Pat Devlin.
In other cuts featuring former Penn State players, the Steelers cut TE John Gilmore and P Jeremy Kapinos. Aaron Maybin was on the bubble with the Jets, after having been cut loose by the Buffalo Bills, with several pundits opining that he wouldn’t make through the cut to 53. He has survived, at least for now, but G Dennis Landolt got cut. LB Chris Colasanti and DT Ollie Ogbu didn’t make it with the Colts. The Eagles cut C A. Q. Shipley. Sparingly used WR Derrick Williams was given his walking papers by the Detroit Lions. Da Raidahs cut LB Bani Gbadyu.
