The Nittany Turkey

Primarily about Penn State football, this is a tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Nittany Apartment Incident Update

Posted on September 3, 2008 Written by The Nittany Turkey

Here’s more on the incident reported very vaguely in the previous post.

The Centre Daily Times reports that the police responded to complaints of a loud party at #5204. I don’t see why that requires four units, including a “special response vehicle”; however, the university police said that they just happened to be driving the aforementioned SRV when they got the call.

OK, so no big deal—except that the cops also confiscated a small quantity of weed.

No arrests were made, the cops left with the confiscated evidence, and that was that. If any violations are to be cited, that will occur through the mail.

The boys couldn’t even roll themselves a fattie to pass around because the cops raided their stash. Pity.

Now, I can hear you Generation X and Y types who don’t know any better saying that smoking a little pot shouldn’t be a crime. However, these are athletes in training during an active season for their sport. They shouldn’t be using any drugs or alcohol. Furthermore, while I am not privy to team rules, I think it’s a good bet that smoking pot is prohibited.

Certainly, the ganja didn’t belong to Evans, Koroma, or Wallace. Some fool not on the football team undoubtedly left it there unbeknownst to the three innocent football players who live there. Yeah, right. Sounds a lot like Michael Irvin explaining away the coke allegedly left in his Dallas hotel room by a hooker a few years back.

There is something quite disconcerting about these dumbasses having even an ounce or two of marijuana (try from this resource from Missouri Green Team)in their apartment after all the attention that has been paid to off-field incidents involving their team. Christ, what is Paterno supposed to do now? Suspend half the defensive line? He can’t do that! He’ll have to let these guys off the hook, at least for the duration of the season. How will that go down with those who have been asking for Paterno’s head on a platter? No matter what he does, he’s screwed.

OK, I’m getting ahead of myself. They haven’t been charged with anything yet. I’m just sayin’. For those of you who are conspiracy theorists, perhaps Graham Spanier and Tim Curley planted that bag of mary jane in the apartment.

Oh, well. Business as usual.

Another Off-Field Incident?

Posted on September 3, 2008 Written by The Nittany Turkey

The Daily Collegian reports that police visited Nittany Apartments #5204 to investigate “an incident.” This apartment is the home three Penn State players: defensive end Maurice Evans, defensive tackle Abe Koroma, and cornerback A. J. Wallace. The language of the report was vague, as apparently police have not yet released any information about what in particular was being investigated.

This has an ominous ring to it. ??????? First of all, at least four police vehicles were involved, including a “special response vehicle.” Does that seem like a bit of overreaction, unless they’re dealing with something major? casino arab Furthermore, if it was merely underage drinking or some similar minor offense, the police wouldn’t be playing things so close to the vest. ??? ???? ??????? ??? ?????

This Turkey does not want to go all National Enquirer on you, but another incident was coincidentally reported yesterday: an 18 year-old Park Forest girl claims that she was raped on August 23 by two known people. Let us hope that there is no connection.

Needless to say, with three defensive starters involved, Nittany Lions fans hope this will blow over.

Hunt Cracks Eagles Starting Lineup

Posted on September 3, 2008 Written by The Nittany Turkey

No, you’re not reading that wrong. A few weeks ago, former Penn State star running back Tony Hunt was improbable to make the Philadelphia Eagles roster at all, let alone as a starter. The Eagles had acquired Lorenzo Booker from Miami, which resulted in Hunt being moved to #4 on the depth chart—a certain trip to the gallows on cut-down day.

However, Hunt’s performance on special teams and as fullback saved him. ???? ???? ??? ??? ???? He will be the Eagles’ starting fullback, responsible for protecting Donovan McNabb and blocking for Brian Westbrook, two tall orders. ???????? ???????? What he won’t be doing is carrying the ball very much, as the fullback doesn’t figure into many plays in the Eagles’ version of the West Coast Offense.

Will Hunt remain the starting fullback as the season progresses? Two things govern that: his performance and which experienced blocking backs show up on the waiver wire. ?????? ??? ???? ????? This Turkey does not believe that Hunt’s position on the depth chart is set in concrete.

Read the story in the Centre Daily Times.

Whodat Turkey?

The Nittany Turkey is a retired techno-geek who thinks he knows something about Penn State football and everything else in the world. If there's a topic, we have an opinion on it, and you know what "they" say about opinions! Most of what is posted here involves a heavy dose of hip-shooting conjecture, but unlike some other blogs, we don't represent it as fact. Read More…
